A quick word ...
Our lovely building was established and gifted to the Village in 1892 and has remained at the centre of Village life ever since. The Village Hall is now a Company Limited by Guarantee and remains a not-for-profit organisation with all money raised going towards the on-going maintenance of the building.
We hope we can count on the community to once again re-new your subscriptions. Membership entitles you to use the facilities but also helps to pay the ongoing maintenance and energy bills. We have recently made significant improvements to the skittle alley, club room, rain water drainage and external appearance. Our main hall has been recently repainted by volunteers and we are now fundraising to improve other areas of the building.
Our Members Social Club offers a warm and friendly atmosphere and supervised children are always welcome. During the winter months the Mad Monks and Anchor B Mens skittle teams play their home games on Friday evenings and Sunday evening offers a relaxed social night. We also run Quiz nights and Community Events and Parties throughout the year.
Our Community Cafe runs on the 1st Saturday of the month from 10am till noon and offers any opportunity for friends and neighbours to meet in the comfort of the main hall and enjoy a hot drink, breakfast and cakes.
The massive ‘behind the scenes’ effort in keeping the Village Hall and Social Club running is down to few dedicated volunteers and we desperately need more. If you could you spare a few hours per month to help keep your Hall running it would be greatly appreciated. Could you help with keeping the car park tidy, cleaning, the occasional bar duty, building maintenance – we’d love to hear from you. Please let’s all pull together to keep our Village Hall running.
The Social Club i the operating arm of Portbury Village Hall Ltd and all members of the club are de facto members of the Company and also guarantors of the Company to the amount of £1.00 (in the very unlikely event of liquidation) . Each year the board presents a report of its activities to the AGM of he Club and members can ask questions of eh board members. Members have similar rights to shareholders and can put themselves forward to be members of the board by requesting an EGM.
The Committee meets on a regular basis and always welcomes new members.
